MAKING MEMORIES with Thomas & Jacqui Böhm and Sabie Valley Rider Academy
The Wild Coast, known also as the Transkei, is the 250 kilometer long stretch of rugged and unspoiled coastline that is rural South Africa at its best. We will be exploring the section from Port St Johns to Kei Mouth on this GETAWAY!!
We meander down the ‘Wild Coast’ stepping back in time and enjoying the old school hospitality of the famous family run seaside hotels.
The tour takes us along the coastal gravel routes reaching our hotels by midday, leaving you time to relax on the beach, swim in the sea, play some table tennis or lawn tennis, book a horse ride on the beach, take a coastal hike, enjoy the friendly atmosphere at the resort pools or just read a book.
Meeting at Himeville KZN in the evening with tour briefing & dinner. Friday morning we depart the Southern Drakensberg to Port St Johns, our first night on the Wild Coast. In Port St Johns we leave the bikes and take a 2 hour barge cruise down the Mzimvubu River before returning to the hotel for a braai.
Next stop, just beyond Coffee Bay, is the White Clay Holiday Resort with rustic seaside chalet perched above its very own private & seculded beach, (we encourage you to take a sunrise strole). The chalets may be rustic but the venue & seafood dinner more than makes up for any short comings in that department. Arriving midday there is time to expoler the Hole in the Wall. We lunch at the names sake hotel and pick up our guide to take us on foot to see this spectaular sight close up.
The next 2 nights we are in the Cwebe/Dwesa Nature Reserve at The Haven Hotel in its Garden Cottages & thatched Xhosa styled rondavels. Here we enjoy the hotels famed hospitaility & good food – breakfast, lunch & 4-course dinner!! To make space for all this great food we take an optional walk to the nearby Bashee Lighthouse and back via the beach but one is also welcome to just chill & enjoy any of the hotels many activities & amenities or just lazy by the pool & read a book.
Day 6 we leave for another one of the Wild Coast’s treasures: Trennery’s Hotel. Arriving at lunchtime, get settled & enjoy a light bite around the pool. For the adventurous there is an optional afternoon ride to the Jacaranda Ship Wreck… well what’s left of it, meeting back for drinks & dinner in the restaurant. The next day we take a day trip over the Kei River at the Mouth with the ferry to lunch at the famous Morgan’s Bay Hotel’s “The Deck Restaurant & Bar”. Again for the adventurous an optional ride to the Double Mouth View point & back before lunch and returning to Trennery’s via the ferry for drinks & dinner at the Trennery’s Hotel.
After breakfast we head back to Himeville via lunch in Maclear for the final tour dinner and our fun ritual Straff / Prestasie Doppe ceremony.
Following breaky on the last morning we say our farewells until we ride together again…
