Pilgrim’s – Blyde River Canyon – Robbers Pass
This Easter join us on this historical, foodie, all tar road tour of the Old Eastern Transvaal.
Meeting in Dullstroom at 09h30 to depart by 10h00 we head in the direction of Origstad via Waterfall Pass, stopping along the way at various historical points of interest, soaking up the views at 3 Rondawels, Wonderview & Lisbon Fall and refreshment stops at Tiezers Forkenmeat Padstal en Stripklap and Chubby Pig Eatery. Before heading through the small museum town of Pilgrim’s Rest to The Inn on Robbers Pass – a family farm in the heart of the now Mpumalanga, amidst the majestic mountains of the Robbers Pass, renowned for a stage coach gold heist in 1899, between Pilgrim’s Rest and Ohrigstad. Here we will be staying in charming cottages and the converted Horse Livery the perfect, peaceful accommodation from which to explore this biking paradise.
Saturday, after Eugene’s gourmet brekkie, we follow a round trip visiting historical Voortrekker buildings in Lydenburg, then onto Long Tom Canon and stopping for a ‘njammie’ lunch at Hops Hollow Brewery before returning to our lodgings via Sabie popping in at Lone Creek Falls if time allows. Then back to explore the historical gold mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest.
Easter Sunday kicks off with a Easter Egg Hunt at breakfast before more stunning tar routes through Graskop and cappuccinos at Cantos, the newly repaired Kowyn’s to Hazyview, to the Casterbridge Motor Museum and lunch at Gum Treez Pub & Grill in White River. Following ‘Jock’ the famous Staffie’s foot steps, we make our way back to Inn on Robbers Pass through Sabie for a few brews and another hearty dinner prepared by Thomas & Jacqui.
